Sazlar formed in 1986, when a group of dance instructors and students decided to create live music for dance performances in the Albuquerque area. Since then, the group has become a popular dance band, performing traditional and popular music from around the Mediterranean. They play regularly at the Performing Arts Club in Albuquerque and at Arts in the Park functions sponsored by the City of Albuquerque, as well as at private parties, workshops, and concerts. They've been seen at Summerfest, EJ's Coffeehouse, and the Outpost Performance Space, and have performed live broadcasts on KUNM's "Ear to the Ground".
Much of Sazlar's training has come from the world class musicians who teach every summer at the Near Eastern Music and Dance Camp in Mendocino, California. This camp takes place late in August, in the beautiful setting of the redwood forest, where musicians and dancers gather for a week of classes, performances, jam sessions, and of course, parties.
